Basic Ad Specifications

  • Live Area: 8" x 10.375" (full page)
  • Trim Size: 8.5" x 10.875" (full page)
  • Include a 0.125" bleed on all full-page and two-page ads.
  • Resolution: 300 dpi
  • Convert all colors to CMYK or grayscale. Do not use RGB or indexed color.

Video Demo Specifications Submitted videos must be a .flv (Flash) file with dimensions of 640 pixels x 480 pixels (or the exact same proportion—larger only). IFMA cannot accept files smaller than these dimensions. Videos must be a maximum of 6 minutes.

File Saving and Formatting Requirements
IFMA uses the Microsoft Windows platform. Please don't send files with Mac previews. Please submit digital art only. IFMA does not accept ads saved in page layout programs (QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, Pagemaker, etc.). Please submit only .pdf, .eps, or .tiff files.

  • Adobe Acrobat:
    Save files in high-resolution press-optimized composite .pdf format.
  • Adobe Illustrator:
    Save files in .eps format. Convert all fonts to outlines. Use CMYK colors. Don't use RGB or PMS spot colors. Include all linked files saved as 300 dpi CMYK .eps or .tiff. Save with IBM (8 bit/pixel) preview with binary encoding. Do not embed color profile (ICC color profile).
  • Adobe Photoshop:
    Save files in .eps or .tiff format at 300 dpi (600 minimum for line art) in CMYK (or grayscale for B/W ads). Rasterize all fonts. Don't use RGB or indexed color. Don't save with .lzw or .jpeg compression. Save with IBM (8 bit/pixel) preview with binary encoding. Do not embed color profile (ICC color profile).

All online banner ads need to be 72dpi, RGB and saved in .gif or .jpg format. Animated .gif files are acceptable. No flash animation. The file size cannot exceed 40k for online banner ads.

File Naming
Documents shouuld be named by the advertiser's name and the FMJ issue date. For example, "Company 9-08" would be the file name of an ad from the advertiser for the September/October 2008 FMJ issue.

Proofs
Proofs are required to match color for all digital files submitted. Please supply a single-page, composite proof at 100% (actual size) that accurately represents the digital file. The publisher cannot be responsible for materials submitted without acceptable proofs.
